EdTech company Gebeya has announced its plan for expansion into Senegal in response to the growing tech potential of West Africa. Until now, Francophone Africa remained a vast untapped source of talent.

Gebeya is a new-age EdTech company that is the center of excellence for African IT talent. Building a self-sustainable ecosystem that trains, hires and cultivates, the company has positioned itself as an organization that produces top African Software Engineers who are specialists in several industries including AI, AgriTech, Blockchain, FinTech, Internet of Things, Media Production, Telecom, and Gaming.

Hiruy Amanuel, co-founder of Gebeya, has said “I love empowering entrepreneurs and investing where I can see the impact. I’m very excited to continue to explore other countries on the African continent to see what other countries have to offer as far as technology services in the respective sectors. I’ve been investing in startups for the last seven years, and I’ve been investing in African startups focused on emerging markets for the last three.”

The company announced its move to establish itself in Francophone Africa this past April aiming to steer the region to the front lines of Africa’s digital transformation by producing experienced professional tech talent and creating job opportunities. Many factors have contributed to this region’s absence in much of the continent’s tech scene so far, but now Gebeya has launched the initiative to recognize and nurture the abundant tech talent of West Africa and instigate change.

“Senegal is the ideal landscape for tech companies as it is home to numerous hubs dedicated to tech advancements. The majority of the population is under the age of 25, which signifies energy and capacity to thrive in the economy,” stated Amadou Daffe, CEO and co-founder of Gebeya.

“Senegal was also the first country in Africa where Coders4Africa (C4A) established itself. The country possesses versatility and potential that can be transformed into a center of innovation. I am very optimistic that our expansion will translate to turning aspiring tech talents into a professional workforce that can further enable the Digital Renaissance of Africa.”

In addition to this, Gebeya has been making significant headway as it sees the graduation of its fourth batch of 35 trainees, which took place on May 25th, 2019. The company has also begun its second cohort of 10 trainees for Orange almost two months ago. Moreover, the company has initiated the training of tech professionals on Blockchain technology and recently graduated its first class. This was made possible by a unique opportunity offered by the Swedish initiative United in Tech (UNITECH) Ethiopian and Senegalese trainees.

For residents of Addis Ababa, Gebeya will be providing its facilities to enable the successful completion of the Blockchain training. The course will be offered online by Blockgeeks for a total period of four months running from May 20th to September 26th, 2019. By the end of the training, trainees can take part in a three-day Hackathon that will be taking place from September 27th – 29, 2019.
