In the race to digitise mobility in Africa, BuuPass is doing things differently.

Over 1.3 billion people inhabit the African continent at the moment, making it the second-most-populous continent on earth. The United Nations estimates that the human population could grow to around 9.7 billion in 2050. More than half of the projected increase in the global population up to 2050 will be concentrated in eight countries, the UN has said, and five of them are in Africa. As Africa is confronted with this population boom, mobility needs have become more pressing than ever.

Thanks to technology, the African mobility sector has welcomed new players and is experiencing a boom like never before. The rise of several players across the continent and funding rounds in the ecosystem is a perfect testament to this. In H1 of 2022, the logistics and mobility sector accounted for 11.4% of the total funds raised by African startups, making it the second-highest after FinTech startups.
