Stakeholders in the health sector have emphasised early detection, effective management and continuous support as some of the ways to improve chronic disease management among patients.
The experts in the sector also canvassed for the government and private investors to create a healthcare ecosystem where individuals could readily access the care they need to effectively manage chronic diseases and enjoy a higher quality of life.
A statement by Joseph Okoroafor, the Marketing Manager, Wellahealth’s Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO), said that stakeholders from public and private sectors stated these recently at the Round Table 2023 conference organised by the company in Lagos.
According to him, various keynote speakers and panelists like Dr. Doyin Sagoe; Managed Care Technical Consultant, Mr. Tosin Awosika; Lagos State Health Management Agency, Dr. Brian Ndubuisi and Mr. Tomi Olusanya, among others, representing both public and private sectors, spoke on many crucial subjects as they affect the people’s health.
Okoroafor explained that the speakers shared invaluable insights into the current state of chronic disease management, identified challenges faced by both healthcare providers and patients, and discussed the possibilities and potential pathways for transformation.
The statement hinted that early detection and management would help to curb the high mortality rate among the sick in the country.
Okoroafor emphasised that the roundtable is intended to be an annual event, where various issues and challenges in the health sector would be dissected and solutions proffered.
The statement said: “This groundbreaking symposium, poised to become an annual cornerstone in the Nigerian healthcare calendar, brought together an illustrious gathering of healthcare experts, industry leaders and innovators united by a common goal – advancing chronic disease management and exploring innovative trends in chronic patient care.
“The roundtable event, standing as a beacon of hope for Nigerians grappling with chronic diseases, served as a platform for leading HMO practitioners to engage in candid dialogues, share their experiences, and explore innovative solutions for managing chronic diseases for their enrollees.
“The gathering was characterised by a commitment to collaborative problem-solving, and an unwavering dedication to finding sustainable strategies for alleviating the burden of chronic illnesses, both on patients, their loved ones, as well as the healthcare system.”
